Owner operators
Owner operators are paid a percentage of revenue per trip and 100% of fuel surcharges. Average weekly pay and miles depends on which terminal drivers are based out of. In 2006 our owner operators averaged $135,000 and $1.86 per mile, for all miles!!! This equates to just under 1,400 mile a week!!! You can do the math to see our owner operators don’t have to be on the road all week to earn a healthy living. |
Company drivers
Company drivers are paid either an hourly rate or mileage based on the length of the trip. If a trip is less than 140 miles an hourly rate is paid. Hourly rates are based on home terminal and length of employment. If a trip is over 140 miles drivers are paid $.30 for empty miles, and between $.38 and $.48 for loaded miles, based on home terminal and length of employment. In addition, there is loading/unloading, detention, holiday, training, layover, wash, and breakdown pay. Company drivers earned just under $42,000 on average in 2006. Company drivers drove similar amount of miles that our owner operators did in 2006, which means plenty of home time!! |
