FOR NEW VICE PRESIDENT OF SAFETY AND SECURITY, 'IT'S ALL ABOUT THE SAFETY OF OUR DRIVERS'

By Aaron Dias

New Vice President of Safety and Security, Susan Melchiorre is no stranger to the industry. Joining us this past June, Sue brings over thirty years of experience in the transportation industry – nineteen of which have been on the tanker side. Originally from Hilliard, OH, but now residing in Florida over the last 20 years, she has worked as a dock worker, a dispatcher, operations manager, claims manager, and a terminal manager. Throughout this time, Sue found her calling in the transportation industry – safety, specifically on the tanker side of the business.

The safety of the drivers at MC Tank is at the forefront of Sue’s vision. When asked about what was at the top of her agenda, Sue elaborated, “a few big initiatives we have coming up are inward and outward facing cameras in our trucks. This is the most beneficial in protecting our drivers from unnecessary litigation and to help them become better drivers.” She added, “We will start the last quarter of the year doing quarterly safety meetings, so our drivers don’t have to give up their Saturdays – so that they are able to work or spend time at home with their families”.

Understanding our drivers’ needs to spend quality time with their families is quite important to Sue, as she is married with two children. Her oldest has been in the Army for over 20 years and she also has a 6-year-old grandson – one of her greatest joys. In her free time, Sue enjoys fishing in the Gulf of Mexico with her husband and mother, who lives with them. Independently, she is an avid reader and remains a diehard Ohio State football fan.

When asked what our drivers can look forward to for 2023, Sue announced, “In the beginning of 2023, we will roll out a Driver Safety Bonus Program”. With MC Tank as part of the National Tank Truck Carriers, Sue’s thinking bigger: “My overall goal is for MC Tank to win the Heil Safety Award”, which is top honors for being the safest tank truck carrier in our industry. Sue recognizes that to achieve such an award, it starts with our drivers. “I am most proud of how fortunate I have been to work with so many great drivers and people in our industry!”.
