Hazmat Security and Roadside Inspections

June 30th, 2015

HAZMAT Transportation Security.  Every month investigators receive numerous tips on terrorist trying to acquire, transport, or make nuclear, biological, or chemical weapons.  The FBI has shared with the public over 69 plots since 9/11 that have been thwarted off because of the diligence of citizens and agents.  Each of these plots could have caused hundreds or even thousands of casualties had they been successful.  These plots failed because they did not have the resources, personnel, or the right opportunity to carry out such an attack. The opportunity may have been lost because of the vigilance of those in the area.  Most recently, a homegrown terrorist was apprehended who stated that he had high inspirations of placing a bomb in the Super Bowl.

Presently, there is some credible chatter that ISIS will make an attack during Independence Day celebrations this weekend.  They’re likely taking the opportunity to target large crowds during a National holiday, use the media to broadcast their attack; and mask the actual attack under noise of the fireworks displays.

Thus, with this horrible thought in mind we are obligated to remind everyone about the probability of another, potential large, attack.  Investigators have discovered that every known terrorist group in the world (including Hamas, Hezbollah, Al Qaeda, and spin-off groups such as ISIS) has at least one contact in northern part of the state of New Jersey.

The following is a reminder to every one to:

  • Remain aware of your surroundings at all times.
  • Try not to appear to be vulnerable.
  • Know the current Threat Level.
  • Do not deliver a shipment to an address other than the one that is on the Trip Report.
  • Lock the doors:
  1. when operating it in urban areas;
  2. when operating it in rural stop and go traffic;
  3. when parked; and
  4. while unattended.
  • Do not discuss the product you are transporting or its destination with strangers or where the conversation could be overheard.
  • Do not stop to assist disabled vehicles or motorists.
  • Observe the no passenger rule.
  • Beware of being tricked into a different route, delivery location, or being hi-jacked.
  • Report any questionable activities or personnel immediately to the legal authorities and your first line supervisor.

The bottom line is that terrorism is alive. We all need to keep our wits and be aware of our surroundings at all times.  If something appears to be out of line – it might be.  It is better to error on the side of caution.  Promptly contact local law enforcement.

Roadside Inspections.  Company drivers and contractors have cashed in on M.C. Tank Transport’s cash for clean sheet program twenty times the inception of the program.   The program officially began on 1 April 2015.  On that date and after, any level of Driver/Vehicle Examination conducted by an enforcement agent that results in a “clean sheet will earn the operator of the vehicle $100.

Independence Day.  Traditionally, Independence Day is celebrated on 4 July.  On that date in 1776, the Continental Congress declared independence from the rule of the King of Great Britain.  While enjoying the back yard BBQ, fireworks, and day off, take a few minutes and read the Declaration of Independence
